Congratulations: It's a great start. But you're right; looks like either a killer or zombie;-). Self portraits always look severe because they take so much concentration. When I do them people say I look mad. It's because others are used to seeing my smiling, social side - not the concentrated artist at work. If you do your next one with a 3/4 semi-side light coming from above, it will look less like a forensic portraitist's handiwork. They always use direct frontal light (as in a flash) when creating their idea of a killer's mug. Look forward to seeing your next one!
